Richmond in the Northern Cape is South Africa’s official Book Town. The little dorp or village lies in the middle of the Great Karoo, a semi-desert region, halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Literally in the middle of nowhere and almost 800 – 1000km from any of the major cities. Richmond, the only Book Town on the African continent, has been a literary oasis in the middle of the Great Karoo desert for almost two decades.
It has become a rite of passage for the literati and Bookbedonnerd people of this beautiful land affectionately known as Madibaland.
